Ordering the organ

A letter about the organ from Revd Hare

In August 1899 Reverend Ernest Hare wrote to the organ manufacturers Harrison and Harrison of Durham to order the organ for the new church. A copy of his original letter and its text are shown below.

Harrison and Harrison continue to maintain the organ today. The organ is listed in the National Pipe Organ Register as number N02982, and full details are given here: http://www.npor.org.uk/cgi-bin/Rsearch.cgi?Fn=Rsearch&rec_index=N02982.

YORKS

Dear Sir,
We have decided to place the order for the Organ for Goathland Church in your hands, according to the specification & estimate you sent on May 27th — two full manuals 58 notes Pedal Organ at £120. If you can add anything further in the way of improvement we should be very grateful, as we are disappointed at not getting one similar to that at St Hilda's Whitby. Perhaps you will look at the Church some time so as to suit the organ to the place — there is an arch & chamber left for the organ on the south side of the Chancel. I shall be away from home during August & September, so if you wish to come then please let me know & I will arrange for someone else to meet you. Perhaps it may do when I come back — we do not want the Organ until early next June. Please reply to me at Hallgarth, Pickering  — Yorks.
I am
Yours Truly
Ernest B Hare

Will it be possible to add stops to the organ at any time?
